Happy Friday! Today, in our silent seminar, you will respond to questions about the novel and comments from your classmates. Then, you will use those comments to form a well supported response to the questions.
- I can use textual evidence to support your response and reply to other comments.
- An example response:
Jem has grown up and matured throughout the book in the way that he understands respect. When he insists on going back for his pants, he says "Atticus ain't ever whipped since I can remember. I wanta keep it that way" (Lee 75). By saying this, he shows growth by understanding how that would make Atticus disappointed in him. On the other hand, Scout has not yet matured enough to understand this. Instead, she focuses on the punishment, saying "A lickin' hurts but it doesn't last" (Lee 75). She does not understand that it is about something else for Jem. |
Then, we will continue with reading.
