"It was the toughest adjustment I've had to make, and I haven’t finished making it yet… not by a long way”.
“The Shawshank Redemption” by Stephen King is about a man of the name Ellis Boyd, but otherwise known in the story as “Red” who is in prison for the murder of his wife, which he did by dismantling her car brakes. While Red is in prison, Red be-friended a man of the name Andy Dufresne, a lawyer. In prison, they both face issues that affected them terribly.
In Shawshank, Red is in prison for murder, and he is writing about himself, but manly about Andy, and what he experienced with him. It all started when Andy showed up at Shawshank in 1948 on the charge of murder of his wife and her new lover, and even though he was innocent and the evidence proves it, he was sentenced to life in prison. Over the years, Andy faced many issues with inmates, new wardens, and adapting to prison life. Then in 1975, something spectacular happened, which shocked everyone, including Red that twisted the story.
Personally, I love this story of Shawshank and the many details put into it. Even though it’s a fictional story, king put so much detail into it as if it actually happened. With Red, as harmless as a bee, because all he can do is strike once, then becomes harmless, then Andy as harmless as a fly. Then Andy finds a way to get above the law for a few moments in his stay.
Instead of being like any other of Kings Novels, being mystery and horror, King mixed it up and wrote a story of which still have’s some of his format, but not the traditional format. King always seems to put the narrator as a second person’s point of view.
Overall, I think this is one of Stephen King’s best stories. I recommend it to anyone who loves King, or anyone looking for a great (kind of messed up) story.
