I hope you had a delicious and fulfilling Thanksgiving break. Mine was definitely relaxing and rejuvenating. I look forward to wrapping up these final 3 weeks of this semester with a wonderful novella, The Pearl, by John Steinbeck.
Today, we will learn about the background of the story and the author through this PowerPoint. I got this PowerPoint thanks to the internet, but it was created by Mrs. Tai and Ms. Ku and used it to help build your background knowledge about the author and the text.
As we work through the PowerPoint, you should complete the 4 questions posted within it. The first asks you to predict the theme. Remember theme is the overall lesson you learn or concepts we can discuss in greater depth. Theme is NOT a brief summary of the plot or what happens in the story.
Lastly, we read in class pausing to discuss key scenes when necessary.
